Remote job description

About Semgrep

Our mission is to make world-class software security available to everyone. This means building program analysis tools that are open source, easy to use, powerful, and fast. It also means building a team with security expertise and a passion for great developer experiences. Most of all, it means working with honesty and respect in a diverse community of dreamers and builders. We've redefined static analysis tooling by committing to all of these, and turned our project, Semgrep, into an essential safeguard for code at Snowflake, Dropbox, and more.

About the role

The Semgrep community comprises users, developers, and supporters who contribute to our platform's growth and success. Engaging with this community is vital for building goodwill, trust, gathering feedback, and marketing. We have a strong community presence and are expanding with a new academy and interactive support platform. As our Community Manager, you will help grow and engage the community through events, courses, content, and newsletters. You will work closely with the Head of Community and Education, marketing team, and technical writers to ensure the community's healthy growth. Your responsibilities will include organizing events, creating landing pages, supporting academy students, managing social media, defining the community's brand and values, assisting with the support platform project, strategizing community growth, gathering metrics, and promoting employee participation in other communities. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in community management, branding, growth, and content creation. Success in this role requires organizational skills, self-motivation, follow-up, kindness, empathy, and respect for the community.

Location expectations:

  • Our expectation is that this role will be 100% remote (within North America) with occasional travel.

Prior experience in a fast-paced, tech environment is helpful, but we are more interested in your community management and operational skills than your pedigree. So if this opportunity excites you but you don't meet the exact requirements, apply anyway!

What you'll do

  • Experience in running events, especially virtual events with a very busy chat
  • Experience with marketing tasks, such as writing a newsletter, creating social media posts, writing copy
  • Experience working in a rapidly growing, fast-paced organization
  • Your work style exudes respect, creativeness, consistency, and kindness
  • Proven ability to work with other teams and communicate clearly to ensure we arrive at the finish line for small projects
  • Consistent in either getting tasks done, or reporting upwards so someone else can help if you're stuck

You are ideal for this role if you have

  • Organizing, hosting and running live events (mostly virtual), including enforcing code of conduct
  • Strategizing community growth
  • Helping to manage online academy (answering support tickets, uploading content)
  • Managing small community projects, such as creation of a new course
  • Identifying amazing community members so we can recognize and/or reward them
  • Organizing speakers from within Semgrep apply to speak in other communities (conferences, meetups, podcasts)
  • Travel occasionally (2-4 times per year) for community and/or marketing events. If you travel and there is a booth, we would ask you to work some shifts in the booth.

Compensation

Salary Range: $84,000 - $99,000

Our compensation package includes equity and benefits in addition to salary.

What we offer

Our goal is to competitively and fairly compensate every Semgrep employee with a system that equally rewards those who are vocal and those who are less comfortable making demands during the final steps of the hiring process. To that end, we generate internal compensation bands that are used when discussing and negotiating salaries. We update these based on market data to make sure they're above the average for comparable roles.

We also invest in our employees' well-being and long term success with comprehensive health plans, generous vacation time, 401k, learning stipends, and more. Our benefits are for everyone, so that you're taken care of, and we work with individuals to make sure they have what they need, whether that's quiet work space, adjusted hours, or something else.

Who we are

We have people from France and the Philippines, physics and philosophy, formal methods research and full fledged corporations. We're new parents and new grads, aspiring authors and aspiring Americans, dog lovers and dogfooders. We get together often to bike, bake, and meet up in parks. In our interactions, we believe respect and honesty go hand in hand, and prioritize both.

Semgrep is an equal-opportunity employer seeking a diverse range of backgrounds. We value who you are ?" including your cultural heritage, your socioeconomic status, your age, your race, your gender, your sexual orientation, your disabilities. We value what's vitally important to you ?" your family, your religion, your politics. We value what you love in this world ?" your music, your weekend pursuits.
