FRACTIONAL IT EXECUTIVE

About
Fractional IT Executive: an embedded part-time executive who does the job an in-house IT director would do, for an agreed number of days per month. I work inside the organisation, not alongside it, with direct accountability for execution and results.
I am usually called in when strategy and operations have drifted apart: a programme stalled for months, an ERP implementation that never went live, a digital initiative with budget but no direction. My job is to take back control, set priorities, and get things into production.
What that looks like in practice:
Recovered a Microsoft Dynamics 365 implementation stalled for 12 months at a 250-person systems integrator: froze scope, cut customisation to the essential, cleansed the data and went live in 4 months, with efficiency up 45% and costs down 15%.
Designed and launched a nationwide cybersecurity programme for CGIL, Italy's largest trade union, including a national Security Operations Centre, and negotiated vendor framework agreements that improved pricing by up to 40%.
Led the programme management of a large-scale sensor deployment across the Italian high-voltage transmission grid, coordinating 8 project managers across 8 parallel workstreams.
As CEO of Faberbee, built and brought to market a blockchain-based contract management platform, reaching EUR 1.5M turnover and raising EUR 3M in investment.
Overall: 30+ stalled projects taken into production, EUR 20M in digital investments managed, EUR 4M+ in savings, 50+ organisations supported across manufacturing, services, energy and the public sector, in 7 countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia. Clients include Ferrari, Eni, Enel, Leonardo, Vodafone, Pirelli and Poste Italiane, as well as the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Office of the President of Mexico.
My background is technical: a Master's in Physics and 13 years on Telecom Italia's network access architecture, handling 50 million requests a day. Combined with an Executive MBA, it lets me talk to engineers and boards in their own language. Today my focus is AI adoption: helping companies separate what AI can really deliver from the hype, and turning it into working processes.
My aim is to leave organisations stronger and able to carry on without me.
What I'm looking for
Fractional or interim leadership roles, fully remote: Fractional CIO / IT Director, Transformation Lead, Programme Director. Part-time engagements for a set number of days per month, or full-time interim mandates to recover or launch a critical programme. Based in Rome, comfortable working across European, UK and Asian time zones. Most interested in companies that need a senior technology leader without a full-time hire, especially around AI adoption, ERP and digital transformation.
