Software Engineer
Rent Butter, Inc.
Proptech startup providing tenant screening software for residential property managers and landlords. ▸ Served as sole developer for 2+ years — played a central role in shaping the product roadmap while owning all engineering: gathering client requirements, translating feedback into features, and shipping end-to-end. ▸ Architected and built the company's core digital rental application, a multi-step screening workflow processing thousands of applications per month, covering identity verification, credit, income, and background checks in a single flow. ▸ Engineered a multi-source fraud detection system that cross-references applicant name, SSN, DOB, phone, and address across background, credit, and financial data providers — surfacing inconsistencies across thousands of monthly applicants that manual review would miss. ▸ Implemented selfie-based identity verification end-to-end: built Microblink ID capture on the frontend and integrated AWS Rekognition for liveness detection and photo matching, reducing identity fraud risk. ▸ Integrated 7+ third-party APIs spanning credit (TransUnion), criminal background (CIC, Cleara), income and rent verification (Plaid), payroll verification (Pinwheel), and payments (Stripe) — each requiring custom data modeling and UX design within the application flow. ▸ Built a two-way Rent Manager integration that syncs applicant profiles between Rent Butter and the property management platform, automating data handoff and reducing manual re-entry for hundreds of property management clients. ▸ Contributed to helpdesk and client-facing support for the first two years across hundreds of property management clients — diagnosing issues, relaying technical context to non-technical stakeholders, and translating feedback directly into the product backlog. ▸ Worked in a Docker-based containerized development environment.
